Over the summer, buzz-in entry systems were installed at all schools that weren't previously equipped with the system, including James Wood High School. Individuals visiting all Frederick County Public Schools now have to use the system and state their name and the purpose of their visit before being granted access to a school.

The top priority on the 2020-2024 Capital Improvements Plan adopted this evening by the School Board is construction of a fourth high school with a capacity of 1,725 students.

The School Board adopted its 2019-2020 Comprehensive Plan and Budget Priorities on November 7. The priorities will help guide the Board's work over the upcoming year and assist the Superintendent as he prepares his proposed budget for FY20.

The School Board voted November 7 to request a supplemental appropriation of approximately $1.3 million from the Frederick County Board of Supervisors for the Phase II Safety and Security Construction Upgrades to seven schools as well as the FCPS Administration Building.

The overall mean score of Frederick County Public Schools’ 2018 graduates who took the SAT exceeded the national mean score of public high school seniors. Frederick County’s mean score of 1099 exceeded the all-schools national mean score by 50 points.

Work has begun on a middle school attendance zone adjustment that will take effect at the beginning of the 2019-20 school year and impact James Wood and Frederick County middle schools.

Frederick County Public Schools is one of 102 Virginia school divisions receiving School Security Equipment Grants this year. The $18,781 state grant will be used to provide additional security cameras at nine different schools.

The on-time graduation rate for members of Frederick County Public Schools' Class of 2018 was 93.3 percent which compares to Virginia's on-time graduation rate of 91.6 percent.
