VHSL Executive Committee Adopts Championships + 1 Schedule

The Virginia High School League Executive Committee has adopted a “Championships + 1” schedule for the 2020-21 Athletic and Activities Season. Under the plan, winter sports begin December 7 with the first competitions to be held December 21.

Class of 2021 Graduation Date

The revised 2020-21 school calendar adopted by the School Board on August 11 moved the first day of school for students to September 8 and rescheduled James Wood High School’s 2021 graduation ceremony for 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 18, 2021.

Middle School Rezoning

The committee that’s developing a middle school rezoning plan to be considered by the School Board has developed three draft options. The rezoning proposal will include the creation of an attendance zone for the replacement Robert E. Aylor Middle School and is only expected to impact the current middle school attendance zones. There will be no impact to current elementary and high school attendance zones.

All Students Eligible for Free School Meals

All Students Eligible for Free School Meals--- As a result of the U.S. Department of Agriculture extending its free school meals program, all students enrolled in Frederick County Public Schools are eligible to receive a free breakfast and lunch each day school is in session through December 22. The free meals are available to all students regardless of whether they are participating in hybrid or all distance learning.

FCPS Names Shannyn DeHaven its 2021 Teacher of the Year

Please join us in congratulating James Wood High School Math Teacher Shannyn DeHaven who has been named the 2021 Frederick County Public Schools Teacher of the Year. The other finalists were Evendale Elementary School Kindergarten Teacher Gina Carty and Armel Elementary School First Grade Teacher Samantha Willoughby.
