Due to Wednesday's forecast of a high of 39, Varsity game temperatures are likely to be around freezing. As such, the James Wood vs. Williamsport SOFTBALL and BASEBALL games were rescheduled.
2016-17 Make-up Day Information
March 17, 2017
- SOFTBALL will be played on Thursday, 3/23, with game times at 4:00 p.m. (JV) and 6:00 p.m. (Varsity)
- BASEBALL games were played Tuesday, 3/21
As noted on the 2016-17 School Calendar, the three days of school missed due to inclement weather on March 14-16 will be made up on June 6, 7 and 8. The last day of school is now Thursday, June 8.
Grading Period Extended
March 16, 2017
Due to the number of days missed because of inclement weather, the end of the third nine-week grading period is being moved to Friday, March 24. Report cards will be distributed on Monday, April 3 instead of Monday, March 27.
AP Test Registration

Due to schools being closed March 14 and 15, the deadline for students to register for Advanced Placement (AP) exams has been extended to Wednesday, March 22. Exams will be administered in May. Contact the guidance department

During a joint meeting on February 22, the School Board reiterated the need for the Frederick County Board of Supervisors to take some action on the requests for the funding needed to proceed with construction of a fourth high school
, the Armel Elementary School addition/renovation
and construction of a 12th elementary school
. The projects are needed to address overcrowding and future enrollment growth due primarily to residential development.
School Board Approves 2017-18 Calendar

Dr. Sovine Presents FY18 Proposed Budget

Schools Superintendent David Sovine presented his proposed FY18 budget to the School Board on February 7.
James Wood Athletic Pass Prices Reduced
Yearly athletic passes for the 2017-2017 school year will be pro-rated for the spring sports season starting February 8. Passes are valid for all regular season home events during the 2016-17 school year (not including post-season games). Adult passes will now be $25 and student passes (ages 6 and up) are $15. These passes provide substantial savings from the $5 admission to single games at the gate. Please contact the Athletic Department at 540-667-5226 to arrange for your passes, or you can purchase at the ticket counter of all home games.

JWHS Campus Traffic Concerns

Traffic on the James Wood High School campus is a growing concern and we need the assistance of everyone driving on campus to help keep our students and staff safe. When exiting the JWHS campus via Woodside Place to Apple Pie Ridge Road, please adhere to the 25 mph speed limit. In addition, we ask that you yield to any vehicles turning left onto Woodside Place from Woodcrest Drive at the intersection of those two roads. Thank you.
Important Parking Information for All After School Activities and Athletic Events

Effective immediately, anyone attending an after school activity or athletic event will be required to park in a designated parking space. Any vehicle parked in a FIRE LANE, along any road leading to or from the school, football stadium, softball field, or any other nonparking space will be ticketed and subject to towing at the registered owner's expense, by order of the Frederick County Sheriff’s Department, the Frederick County Fire Marshall's Office, the Virginia State Police, or any other local, state, or federal law enforcement agency. All Fire Lanes and access roads must be kept open and free of vehicles in the event of an emergency so FIRST RESPONDERS can easily and efficiently access the school building, football stadium, and any other area of the James Wood High School campus. Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring school safety.
