AP Test Registration
February 20, 2017
Students may register to take Advanced Placement (AP) exams from February 21-March 16. Exams will be administered in May. Contact the guidance department
Spring Sports Tryouts Begin February 20
February 16, 2017
Tryouts for JV and Varsity Baseball and Softball, JV and Varsity Girls' and Boys' Soccer, Boys' and Girls' Tennis, and Girls' and Boys' Track & Field will begin on Monday, February 20. Any athlete wishing to participate in tryouts must have an approved 2016-17 VHSL physical on file. Also, athletes and parents must have signed and returned the FCPS Student-Athlete Handbook agreement and emergency information page. The FCPS participation fee of $75.00 will be due prior to the first regular season contest. View the full tryout schedule
Dr. Sovine's Shadow a Student Experience

On February 2, 2017, Frederick County Schools Superintendent David Sovine participated in the Shadow a Student Challenge by shadowing James Wood High School senior Amanda Christian as she participated in classes, extracurricular activities and basketball practice. In this video, Dr. Sovine and Christian discuss the day they enjoyed together and what they learned from the experience.
2017-18 CTE Program Application

Dr. Sovine Presents FY18 Proposed Budget

Schools Superintendent David Sovine presented his proposed FY18 budget to the School Board on February 7.
James Wood Athletic Pass Prices Reduced
Yearly athletic passes for the 2017-2017 school year will be pro-rated for the spring sports season starting February 8. Passes are valid for all regular season home events during the 2016-17 school year (not including post-season games). Adult passes will now be $25 and student passes (ages 6 and up) are $15. These passes provide substantial savings from the $5 admission to single games at the gate. Please contact the Athletic Department at 540-667-5226 to arrange for your passes, or you can purchase at the ticket counter of all home games.

FCPS Spotlight: Bailey's Closet

James Wood High School junior Cassie Sparrow created "Bailey's Closet" to help girls look their best for prom and keep the memory of her friend Bailey Huffman alive. JWHS students are invited to contact Cassie to arrange for a visit to Bailey's Closet and choose from a collection of formal dresses, shoes and jewelry. Dresses are provided on loan for a small fee to cover dry cleaning, because "every girl should feel beautiful."
School Board Extends Dr. Sovine's Contract

JWHS Campus Traffic Concerns

Traffic on the James Wood High School campus is a growing concern and we need the assistance of everyone driving on campus to help keep our students and staff safe. When exiting the JWHS campus via Woodside Place to Apple Pie Ridge Road, please adhere to the 25 mph speed limit. In addition, we ask that you yield to any vehicles turning left onto Woodside Place from Woodcrest Drive at the intersection of those two roads. Thank you.

Important Parking Information for All After School Activities and Athletic Events

Effective immediately, anyone attending an after school activity or athletic event will be required to park in a designated parking space. Any vehicle parked in a FIRE LANE, along any road leading to or from the school, football stadium, softball field, or any other nonparking space will be ticketed and subject to towing at the registered owner's expense, by order of the Frederick County Sheriff’s Department, the Frederick County Fire Marshall's Office, the Virginia State Police, or any other local, state, or federal law enforcement agency. All Fire Lanes and access roads must be kept open and free of vehicles in the event of an emergency so FIRST RESPONDERS can easily and efficiently access the school building, football stadium, and any other area of the James Wood High School campus. Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring school safety.
Frederick County School Board Adopts 2018-23 Capital Improvement Plan

The Capital Improvement Plan adopted by the School Board on December 6 includes three top priorities: construction of a fourth high school, the Armel Elementary School addition/renovation and the construction of a 12th elementary school. Each of these projects is needed to address current overcrowding and future enrollment growth.
