James Wood High School will be offering core courses for credit recovery this summer. Courses will be offered through APEX, a computer based program. The APEX program allows students to complete a course on-line while being monitored by a teacher from James Wood High School. JWHS Summer School is being offered for the purpose of credit recovery. Students will be limited to 2 recovery courses in Summer School. New courses will only be offered if there are available seats after credit recovery registration. New courses need to be approved by Mr. Loving. Only 1 new course can be completed in Summer School.
Applications will be accepted online via the James Wood High School website beginning June 13, with a deadline of June 18. First priority will be given to rising Seniors who need to recover credit for the 2017-2018 school year. Approved applicants will be notified by phone and/or email.
Registration for approved applicants will be held on June 21 from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. and from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. at James Wood High School.
Classes will start on June 26 and must be completed by August 4. We will be offering optional lab times for student who do not have computer access at home or for students who would like a structured environment to complete their course(s). Dates and times for the labs are listed below. All mid-term and final exams MUST be completed at James Wood High School during designated lab times. Students taking courses that have SOL requirements will need to take the SOL test unless they have passed it previously. SOL testing will take place on August 4.
Grades for Summer School will be based on the FCPS grading scale. Students MUST pass the Midterm and Final Tests that are administered at JWHS in order to be awarded credit for the course.
Credit recovery courses cost $250 per course and $125 per semester course. A new course will cost $325 and $165 for a semester course. New courses are subject to availability. All fees must be paid in advance on registration day. Checks can be made out to James Wood High School. No refunds will be given after a course has started.

- July 24, 25, 26 (Monday through Wednesday) - 9:00 a.m. to Noon
- July 31, Aug 1-3 (Monday through Thursday) - 9:00 a.m. to Noon
